The State Eligibility Test (SET) is a competitive examination conducted by the State Level Eligibility Test Commission (SLET), Assam (North East Region). The primary objective of the exam is to identify eligible candidates for appointment as Assistant Professors, similar to the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by the University Grants Commission (UGC).

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Age Limit: There is no age limit to appear in the SET exam. Candidates who qualify are eligible to apply for the post of Assistant Professor within the jurisdiction of the member states of the SLET Commission.
  • Educational Qualification:
    • Candidates must have secured at least 55% marks (without rounding off) in their Master’s Degree or equivalent from universities/institutions recognized by UGC for General/Unreserved/General-EWS candidates.
    • Candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), Persons with Disabilities (PWD), and Other Backward Classes (OBC) from the non-creamy layer must have secured at least 50% marks (without rounding off) in their Master’s Degree or equivalent.
    • Candidates who are in the final year of their Master’s Degree or whose results are pending may also apply.

How to Apply for SET Exam:

Interested and eligible candidates can apply online for the SET exam by following these steps:

  1. Visit the official SLET portal and scroll down to the Important Web-Links section.
  2. Click on the “Online Application Form” and complete the registration process.
  3. Login to the application portal and fill in your personal and educational details.
  4. Upload the required documents.
  5. Pay the application fee according to your category and submit the application form.
  6. After submission, take a printout of the completed application form for future reference.

Important Dates:

  • Online Application Start Date: 1st December 2024
  • Last Date for Online Application Submission: 15th January 2025
  • SET Exam Date: 23rd March 2025

SET Exam Format:

The SET consists of two papers, both of which will have only objective-type questions:

  • Paper I: This paper tests the general teaching and research aptitude of the candidate. It assesses reasoning ability, comprehension, divergent thinking, and general awareness.
  • Paper II: This paper is subject-specific and will consist of 100 objective-type questions, with each question carrying 2 marks.

There is no negative marking in either paper. Visually impaired and PWD candidates with writing disabilities will be given 20 minutes of compensatory time for both Paper I and Paper II.
