The National Testing Agency (NTA) has released the official notification for NTA UGC NET December 2024. This exam is conducted for the determination of eligibility for the award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and the eligibility for Assistant Professor in Indian universities and colleges. It also serves as an entry point for admission to Ph.D. Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria outlined below can apply online for the exam.
The UGC-NET is a national-level exam that tests the eligibility of Indian nationals for the following:
- Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) and Assistant Professor
- Assistant Professor only
- Admission to Ph.D. only (for universities and colleges in India)

Eligibility Criteria for NTA UGC NET December 2024:
Age Limit:
- Junior Research Fellowship (JRF):
- Candidates must not be older than 30 years as of 1st January 2025.
- Age relaxation is provided for candidates in the following categories:
- OBC-NCL (Other Backward Classes – Non-Creamy Layer)
- SC/ST (Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes)
- PwD (Persons with Disabilities)
- Third gender candidates
- Women applicants
- The relaxation is 5 years for these categories.
- Candidates must not be older than 30 years as of 1st January 2025.
- Assistant Professor:
- There is no upper age limit for candidates applying for Assistant Professor eligibility.
- There is no upper age limit for candidates applying for Assistant Professor eligibility.
- Admission to Ph.D.:
- There is no upper age limit for candidates applying for Ph.D. admission through the UGC NET.
Educational Qualification:
- For General/Unreserved/EWS Candidates:
- A candidate must have at least 55% marks (without rounding off) in their Master’s degree or equivalent examination from a recognized university or institution.
- This applies to candidates in subjects like Humanities, Social Sciences, Computer Science, Electronic Science, and more.

- For OBC-NCL/SC/ST/PwD/Third Gender Candidates:
- Candidates must have secured at least 50% marks (without rounding off) in their Master’s degree or equivalent examination from a recognized university.

- Candidates Appearing for Their Master’s Degree Final Year Exams:
- Candidates who are pursuing their Master’s degree or have appeared for the final year exams and whose results are awaited can also apply.
- However, the result should be declared within 2 years for JRF candidates and 1 year for Ph.D. admission candidates.

- Four-Year/8-Semester Bachelor’s Degree Holders:
- Candidates who have completed a 4-year/8-semester Bachelor’s degree program should have a minimum of 75% aggregate marks or equivalent grade, which is applicable for those applying for JRF or Ph.D. admission.
- Candidates with a four-year degree are not eligible for Assistant Professor roles.
- Candidates who have completed a 4-year/8-semester Bachelor’s degree program should have a minimum of 75% aggregate marks or equivalent grade, which is applicable for those applying for JRF or Ph.D. admission.
- Candidates with a Four-Year Bachelor’s Degree (Last Semester):
- Candidates who are in the final semester/year of a Four-Year Bachelor’s Degree Programme can also apply for the test.
- These candidates will be considered provisionally, and the award of JRF or Ph.D. admission will depend on fulfilling the requirements stated by the University Grants Commission (UGC) within the specified time after the result declaration.
- Candidates who are in the final semester/year of a Four-Year Bachelor’s Degree Programme can also apply for the test.
- Candidates with a Four-Year/8-Semester Bachelor’s Degree:
- These candidates can appear in the UGC NET for a subject of their choice, even if their undergraduate degree is in a different discipline.
- Candidates will only be eligible for JRF and Ph.D. admission after completing the required degree requirements.

Application Fee:
Candidates applying for the NTA UGC NET December 2024 exam will need to pay the application fee according to their category. The fee structure is as follows:
