NEC Merit Scholarship 2024-2025 – Details and Application

The North Eastern Council (NEC) has announced the NEC Merit Scholarship for the academic year 2024-2025. This scholarship is intended for students from the North Eastern States of India, offering financial assistance to those pursuing various academic courses inside and outside the North-East.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Residency: Applicants must be permanent residents of any of the North Eastern States.
  • Course Levels Eligible:
    • Diploma, Degree, Post-Graduate, M.Phil., Ph.D.
    • The scholarship is for students pursuing studies at recognized institutions within India.
    • M.Phil./Ph.D. students must have their registration with the respective university.
    • Internships or practical training are not covered by this scholarship.
  • Other Scholarship Holders: Candidates must not be in receipt of any other scholarship or financial assistance from other sources at the time of applying for this scholarship.
  • Family Income: The annual family income must not exceed Rs. 8.0 lakh.
  • Educational Qualification:
    • Diploma: Minimum 60% marks in HSLC/HSSLC or equivalent examination.
    • Degree: Minimum 60% marks in HSSLC or equivalent examination.
    • Post-Graduate: Minimum 60% marks in the Degree examination (BA, BSc, BTech, etc.).
    • M.Phil./Ph.D.: Minimum 60% marks in the Post-Graduate degree.

Scholarship Amount

The amount of scholarship is based on the level of study:

  • Diploma: ₹20,000 per annum
  • Degree: ₹22,000 per annum
  • Post Graduate: ₹25,000 per annum
  • M.Phil./Ph.D.: ₹30,000 per annum

Selection Process

  • Merit-Based Selection: The merit list will be prepared based on the candidate’s performance in the qualifying examination.
  • For M.Phil. and Ph.D. candidates, the selection will also consider the relevance of the research topic to the North Eastern Region. Basic theoretical research is generally not preferred.
  • Candidates who meet the academic requirements and follow the guidelines of the scheme will be selected.

How to Apply for NEC Merit Scholarship?

  1. Visit the National Scholarship Portal: https://scholarships.gov.in
  2. Register: Click on the “New Registration” link and fill in your personal and academic details.
  3. Upload Documents: After registration, log in to the portal, upload necessary documents (Income Certificate, Residential Certificate, etc.).
  4. Submit: Finally, submit the application form and take a printout for future reference.

Documents Required for NEC Merit Scholarship

  • Permanent Residential Certificate (PRC) issued by the competent authority (Dy. Commissioner, Addl. Dy. Commissioner, etc.).
  • Income Certificate issued by the Competent Authority.
  • Bank Account Passbook (optional, but recommended).
  • Qualifying Examination Details.
  • Synopsis signed by the project guide (for M.Phil./Ph.D. candidates).
  • Other documents as required by the National Scholarship Portal guidelines.
